Brunello di Montalcino

2015

Deep red-ruby. Almost hypnotic aromas of ripe red cherry, black cherry-cola, incense, violet, dried rose and minerals. Structured and sweet red and darker fruit flavors are graceful and finely etched, picking up savory spice and floral elements with aeration. Perhaps a touch less multifaceted than some other Brunellos from this estate, but brimming with early appeal and enough balance to easily last another fifteen to twenty years in a good cellar.

Moderately saturated ruby-red. Exotic mineral- and citrus-driven aromas of red cherry, blue fruit liqueur, blood orange and Asian spices, with a sexy floral nuance gaining strength with air. Supple and expansive on the palate, showcasing sweet red cherry and rather savory dark plum flavors lifted by just enough bracing acidity. Densely packed for a 2014 Brunello, at once fleshy and broad but also lively and precise, showing excellent power and cut on the strikingly long finish, characterized by youthfully dusty tannins and a hint of candied violet. One of the best Brunellos of the vintage, it just lacks the sweetness and ripe flesh of warmer vintages. Another standout Brunello from what is, given its small size and limited annual output, the least known of the top fifteen-twenty Brunello producers or so.

Beautiful ripeness, but also balance on the nose, which features cinnamon, dried cedar, dried plums, dark chocolate and licorice. Expansive and comprehensive on the palate with outward-veering tannins and lots of treacle-tart undertones. Chewy and decadent. Drink from 2025.

Rosso di Montalcino

2018

Good full red color. Captivating aromas and flavors of ripe red cherry, savory herbs, and redcurrant jelly are laced with bright licorice and blood orange nuances. An exceptional Rosso, nicely combining richness with vivacity in a remarkably harmonious way. Closes creamy yet refined. One of the top three-four Rossos of the vintage and better than many Brunellos.

Very beautiful Rosso with plums, cedar, and hints of almonds. Medium to full body. Flavorful finish. Impressive from this small Brunello house. Drink or hold.

A dense and pretty red with plum and berry character. Chewy tannins. Seriously structured. Medium body. Solid fruit and a flavorful finish.
